The Islington Chinese Association (ICA) is pleased to host a prestigious collaborative Chinese brush painting event on 11 June featuring renowned Painters Virginia Lloyd-Davies (惟仁 ) from USA and William Cai (蔡唯敏) from the UK.

1:30 pm – 2:30 pm: Painting demonstration – Virginia Lloyd-Davies (惟仁)

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Painting demonstration – William Cai (蔡唯敏)

3:30 pm – 5:30 pm: Collaborative Painting performance – Virginia Lloyd-Davis (惟仁) and William Cai (蔡唯敏)

A teacher at the ICA centre, William Cai (蔡唯敏) and his students will host this rare opportunity for cultural exchange.

Born in Washington, DC of British diplomatic parents, Virginia Lloyd-Davies and her husband moved from Scotland to Rockbridge County, VA in 1986.  A Chinese brush artist since 1976, she has paintings in collections in the US, China, Britain, Europe, Japan, Mexico and Kenya. Her teacher was Master Painter I- Hsiung Ju, with whom she travelled regularly to China & Taiwan. Over the past 20 years she has performed frequent painting demonstrations on PBS-TV, CBS-TV, NBC-TV and Fox-TV in the US and has appeared in news broadcasts in Britain and China. Her Youtube painting channel goes up 1,500 views every 24 hours and has reached two million audience views, having also released three DVDs of peony and landscape painting techniques.  Full biog and artist’s statement: www.joyfulbrush.com

A migrant to the UK over 20 years ago, China-born William Cai (蔡唯敏) has been painting for 40 years and is renowned for his famous landscape paintings amongst others. In his youth Cai admired painters in the ‘Ling Tung’ (嶺東) style and studied under the famous painter Wang Puntun (王奔騰).  His works have their roots in the classical tradition, his style rich and unique.  The BBC has showcased his work and Cai has taught in many schools and community centres skill-sharing with countless students nationwide.

This event is a rare opportunity for the two artists to demonstrate their techniques and styles in an afternoon of joyful brushwork and zen-like energy.  Members of the media are welcome.

畫壇盛會

美國著名水墨畫家惟仁(Virginia Lloyd-Davies)將於六月十一日（星期四），訪問倫敦依士靈頓華人社區中心，與該中心的國畫班師生會晤，並和蔡唯敏老師合作示範作畫，互相砌磋交流。
惟仁師從旅美的國畫家朱一雄（前美國水墨畫協會會長，任教多所大學，二零一二年病逝。）學習水墨畫逾二十六年。她曾經跟隨老師去中國大陸和台灣，上北京的電視台示範。惟仁的畫作被中國和歐美等藝術機構收藏；她在 YouTube的教畫頻道，至今超過二百萬個點擊；她製作了三個DVD ，教授繪畫牡丹和山水。惟仁強調以「氣」作畫，她向西方國家介紹中國的文化，不遺餘力。
惟仁今次訪問依士靈頓華人社區中心，和蔡唯敏老師合作示範寫畫，是初夏一個畫壇盛事。蔡唯敏同樣師出名門，自幼拜嶺東水畫名家王奔騰習畫，中國文化根基豐厚，風格獨特。蔡唯敏曾經上BBC表演書畫，在眾多中文學校和華人社區中心任教；他的桃李滿英國。過去二十多年，蔡老師舉辦了多次個人展和師生展。在傳播中華文化方面，蔡老師同樣不遺餘力。
