City Bridge Trust funded Thriving Beats Surviving project will soon launch its Smart walk club. This initiative aims to provide weekly outdoor activities year round for the Chinese community in London. To this end ICA will partner up with experienced London guides to provide simple outdoor activities and guided walks with Cantonese and Mandarin translation. Our Smart walk club will promote social inclusion by overcoming the language barrier.
ICA is now recruiting outdoor activity volunteers. Please call 020 7263 5986 during office hours or email meipo.tsang@islingtonchinese.com for further details. Do note that all ICA’s outdoor activity volunteers must pass a simple health assessment to confirm their suitability to lead and support outdoor activities.

Smart walk club – Outdoor Activity Volunteer recruitment
- Do you love outdoor activities?
- Do you have hiking experience?
- Are you looking forward to join a wider community?
- Do you speak Mandarin or Cantonese?
- Would you able to volunteer on weekdays?
If your can answer “yes” to all the above questions, please click here to fill in the volunteer application before 30th May!
All eligible recruits must be ICA members and will receive free outdoor activity training which covers: organization skills, risk management, basic first-aid skills, simple map and compass reading.
Volunteer trainees will join the relavant guided tours and help to reconnoiter special destinations.
Once trained, volunteers will be scheduled to support groups of ICA members on London guided walks and where necessary interpret for their elderly non-English speaking fellow members.
