The ISLINGTON CHINESE ASSOCIATION (ICA) Brush Painting and Calligraphy Group led by renowned Chinese painting master William CAI (蔡唯敏) is hosting a 2-week TUTORS & STUDENTS JOINT EXHIBITION. from 28 September (Monday) to 11 October (Sunday) at the Charing Cross Library.
The Chinese Brush Painting and Calligraphy Group was founded in 2011 by William CAI (蔡唯敏先生) and Chu-man WU (胡楚文先生) on the invitation of ICA’s founding member Lady Katy Blair MBE and its CEO Dr. Stephen NG MBE. Katy and Stephen are two of the Chinese community’s visionary leaders in the country.
William CAI is a renowned artist of 40 years standing whose works have been exhibited nationwide in the UK. Chu-man Wu was a leading Chinese calligraphy master who sadly passed away in September 2014. A few pieces of the late Mr. Wu’s work will also be exhibited to show our respect and fond memories of him.
With two illustrious tutors at the helm the ICA Chinese Brush painting and Calligraphy Group draws students from diverse ethnicities across London. They come to hone their skills, constantly learning new ways to express their talents and appreciation of the art. Over the past four years these student members have achieved standards they can justifiably take pride in.
In the spring of 2015 the ICA welcomed Shanghai Calligraphy master Liang-gong JU (書法家朱良拱先生) to its ranks. As an enthusiastic tutor he has brought infectious strength and energy to the group.
This Joint exhibition is an opportunity for all brush art lovers and enthusiasts to appreciate the works of the masters and what the group has achieved. With the ICA’s mission to promote Chinese art and culture in mind we sincerely hope that this exhibition will generate interest in this art form. Together we shall continue to sow the seed and nurture the love of Chinese arts in this country. All are welcome.
ICA’s first joint exhibition took place in 2013 at its premises in Archway. Two years on, students have made further remarkable progress in mastering brush painting and calligraphy skills. The group has also welcomed new students who have exhibited impressive talent and their works will be showcased at this joint exhibition. We look forward to your valuable comments, guidance and feedback.
The group would like to express special thanks to Mrs Chi-chy LEE and her colleagues at the Charing Cross Library in their support in staging this exhibition.
