Position: Chief Executive Officer
Established in 1986, Islington Chinese Association (ICA) is a leading London-based Chinese charity, promoting social cohesion across the UK. We provide inclusive services to all races and age groups, showcasing Chinese arts and culture, promoting racial awareness and harmony, developing a strong community locally and beyond.
ICA is recruiting a dynamic and forward-thinking individual to be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the staff team and further develop ICA as a Centre of Excellence.
Contract: Permanent Part time (3 days a week)
Salary: Pro rata to an annual rate of £35,000 – £40,000
Holidays: Pro rata to an annual rate of 20 days plus public holidays

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team management
Translate the Board of Trustees’ strategic objectives into team and individual work plans with clear and realistic targets
Nurture a cohesive team that commits to ICA’s values and vision. This involves monitoring staff members’ action plans and performances ensuring efficient use of all resources, and investing in their learning and development
Cultivate a staff culture of forward planning, high productivity and accountability in order to deliver high quality services. This includes maintaining staff focus on ICA’s web online and social media presence
Ensure effective systems, controls and risk assessments are in place, to safeguard the users, staff, volunteers and assets of ICA
Maintain the integrity of ICA in fulfilling its funding, legal and statutory obligations.
Finance and viability
Prepare annual budget and activity targets for review with the Treasurer
Update monthly rolling forecasts in monthly Management accounts. Monitor and review the charity’s overall financial health and its performance within each service area
Help Fund raising manager with strategic focus, financial forecasts and budgets
Communications and External Relations
Represent ICA in external events to raise ICA’s profile and champion ICA’s values
Identify and build new relationships as well as nurture existing relationships with funders, donors, public sector bodies, service users and other stakeholders
Note: This is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. The CEO will be required to undertake other duties as agree from time to time with the Board of Trustees.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
A strategic thinker, capable of challenging and developing the future direction of ICA
Strong financial and commercial acumen
An inspiring leader, with vision and drive, as role model to the staff team
A good understanding of the Chinese community and its culture
An excellent communicator in English with strong interpersonal skills
Passionate to make changes at community level and improve service user experiences
Able to work flexi-hours, including weekends and/or after office hours
Desirable:
Previous experience of working in local communities or the third sector
Experience in attracting and mobilising teams of volunteers
Trilingual – fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese
